Nintendo releases Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy on 12 November, and it's a Switch 2 exclusive. If you already own Pikmin 4 on the original Switch, you won't have to buy the whole game again: there will be an upgrade pack. What nobody has told us yet is the cost. We haven't been able to verify a price for the upgrade pack or for the full edition.

What the Switch 2 Edition adds

On the technical side the list is short: 4K output when you play docked on a TV. The more playful addition uses the Switch 2 microphone, which lets you give Oatchi nine different voice commands.

GameShare also gets a look in. You can challenge a friend to Dandori Battles, locally or online through GameChat, even if they don't own the game.

Dandori Academy, the new time-attack mode

This is where most of the new content sits. Dandori Academy is a race against the clock over 72 stages, released bit by bit across three difficulty levels. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday there are official "exams": score well and you earn medals plus exclusive cosmetic extras such as flower photo frames, stamps and user icons. Flunk one and a Redo Pass lets you sit it again.

There's a free demo on the eShop. According to Nintendo it includes the opening area, Sun-Speckled Terrace, and two Dandori Academy stages, so you can see whether the mode clicks with you before spending anything.

The Switch eShop code costs more than usual right now

The Switch 1 version is the only one we can put a price on today. The best offer this morning is an eShop code at HRKGame for €50.37 with coupon Gocdkeys12 (€51.91 with fees). Nintendo's Italian store sells it for €59.99 (no fees). eShop codes can be tied to a region, so check it on the offer before you buy.

For this game, that's steep. The code's historical median is €34.99 (no fees), which puts today's best price 44% above it, and the lowest we've ever recorded is €17.51 (no fees), at the end of October two years ago. We're tracking 30 offers in stock; here are the cheapest four.

You'll also spot an account at Key4Games for €18.19 with GOCDKEYS15 (€19.26 with fees). That's a login to someone else's Nintendo account rather than a code for yours, so the game never sits in your own library and you depend on that access staying valid. We don't recommend it.

Wait for the Switch 2 Edition or buy now?

  • You own Pikmin 4 on Switch and have a Switch 2: the upgrade pack is all you need. Hold on until Nintendo announces its price.
  • You have a Switch 2 but not the game: try the demo and wait for the Switch 2 Edition. Its page has no offers yet, but you can set an alert for Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition and we'll let you know when they appear.
  • You only have the original Switch: the Switch 1 version is the one for you, just not at €50. Set a price alert, or compare every offer to buy Pikmin 4 key on the game page.

Prices checked on the morning of 4 November.
