Guild Wars 2 is free to start, so the question is not whether to buy the game but which expansion to get and in what order. End of Dragons is one of the big ones, and two things are worth knowing before you pay: whether you need the earlier ones, and which account your purchase will land on.
Do you need to play the earlier expansions?
Not strictly: Guild Wars 2 expansions are not sold as a compulsory ladder, and you can start with whichever appeals. Are the Steam version and the official-site version the same account?
No. Guild Wars 2 has the publisher's own route and a Steam route, and accounts on the two do not merge. It is the most expensive trap in this game: if you have been playing for years on your usual account, a Steam key will not attach to it. Before paying, check which channel the listing states and compare it with the one you already use.
Can you play without paying anything?
The base game is free and opens up a good chunk of the original content, with some account limitations. It is the best way to test whether the style suits you before spending on an expansion: play first, decide later.
When is the best time to buy it?
