Steam has cut Forza Horizon 5 by 60% until 8 October. The Standard Edition is down to €23.99 (no fees) from €59.99 (no fees), the Deluxe Edition to €31.99 (no fees) from €79.99 (no fees), and the Premium Edition to €39.99 (no fees) from €99.99 (no fees), all of them the Steam versions. That is a good price for a game Steam users still rate Very Positive: 88% of 92,438 reviews, and 90% of the 1,918 posted in the last 30 days.
Can you pay less somewhere else? Yes, by about two and a half euros, but the cheapest copy is not a Steam one. Which way to go depends on whether you need the game in your Steam library.
Who should buy where
If you want Forza Horizon 5 on Steam, with your achievements and library there, buy it on Steam before 8 October. No reseller we track sells a Steam Key for it this morning, so the store itself is the safe option.
If you do not care which launcher it runs in, the cheapest key is a Windows Key at Eneba: €19.30 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€21.51 with fees). Driffle is close behind at €20.70 with coupon GOCDKEYS10 (€21.85 with fees), also a Windows Key. That is €2.48 less than Steam once fees are paid.
What the Microsoft Store version means for you
This is the part people miss. A Windows Key is redeemed on your Microsoft account and the game is installed through the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app on PC. It cannot be activated on Steam, it will not show up in your Steam library and it does not give you Steam achievements.
The upside is that Microsoft sells Forza Horizon 5 as an Xbox Play Anywhere game, playable on PC and Xbox consoles, according to its own store pages. If you also have an Xbox, check the listing before paying to see what region and platform the seller states. Note too that even the Steam version needs a Microsoft account to play, as Steam's store page says, so you will be signing in to one either way.
Steam Gifts and a €4.38 account
There is a way to get it into Steam for less: a Steam Gift. The cheapest is at Gamivo, €18.58 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€20.22 with fees), and Gameseal and Kinguin are only a few cents above that. A gift is added to your own library, but gifts are often locked to one region, and if it does not match your account you cannot redeem it. Read the listing carefully, or simply pay the extra €3.77 to Steam and forget about it.
The cheapest thing in the comparison is Difmark at €4.19 with coupon Gocdkeys (€4.38 with fees), but that is a Steam Account. You do not get the game: you get access to someone else's Steam profile that has it, and you can lose that access whenever the owner changes the password. We recommend a key.
Deluxe or Premium at 60% off
According to Microsoft's store, the Deluxe Edition adds the Car Pass, and the Premium Edition adds the Car Pass, VIP Membership, Welcome Pack and both expansions, Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure. On Steam, Premium costs €16 more than the base game. If you think you will play the expansions, that is where this sale makes the most sense. The Deluxe Edition, €8 more for the Car Pass alone, is harder to justify.
Windows Keys for the bigger editions save more than the base game does:
- Deluxe Edition: €26.96 with coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€27.25 with fees) at G2A, Windows Key, against €31.99 (no fees) on Steam. Gamivo has a Steam Gift at €24.22 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€26.06 with fees).
- Premium Edition: €31.10 with coupon GCKG2AW4Z8R (€31.39 with fees) at G2A, Windows Key, €8.60 under Steam's €39.99 (no fees). Eneba follows at €28.90 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€31.93 with fees), also a Windows Key, and the cheapest Steam Gift is Gamivo's at €30.62 with coupon GCDKGamivo (€32.68 with fees).
So the Premium Edition as a Windows Key costs less than the Deluxe Edition on Steam.
How cheap it usually gets
Our history figures are store prices before fees and coupons. A key for the Standard Edition usually costs around €23.81, and the lowest we have recorded is €18.90, on 31 August. Today's best key, €19.30 with coupon Gocdkeys10 (€21.51 with fees), is close to that low of €18.90 (no fees, no coupons).
After 8 October, the Steam version goes back to €59.99 (no fees). If you miss the sale, set a price alert and we will tell you when a key drops again. Every store, with fees included, is on the page to buy Forza Horizon 5 key.
Prices checked on the morning of 6 October.
