On console, The Outer Worlds 2 looks best on PS5 Pro, and performance mode is the one to play everywhere.
It renders at the highest internal resolution of the three, above PS5 and Series X. The mode line-up is identical everywhere, so that advantage lands straight on image clarity without changing anything else.
Quality and balanced share settings and differ only in rendering resolution, so the visual step between them is small. Performance cuts resolution, draw distance, shadows, level of detail and some textures, but it puts 60fps on the table, and the analysis recommends it without hesitation.
Free settings and, on RTX 50 cards, Multi Frame Generation with DLSS, which lifts performance considerably. We have no measured GPU numbers for this game, so we are not putting figures on it.
⚠ Between quality and balanced you will mostly see resolution and little else: the real step up is moving to 60fps.

Resolution, modes and FPS come from the video analyses above. The rest is published by each platform's official store and by the game's technical sheet on PC. Where nobody publishes the figure we put a dash, not a guess.

PS5 Pro, which renders at a higher internal resolution than PS5 and Xbox Series X. All three consoles share the same graphics modes, so the difference shows up as image clarity.
Performance. Quality and balanced share settings and differ only in rendering resolution, while performance trades resolution, draw distance, shadows, level of detail and some textures for 60fps.
Very little: they use similar graphics settings, and rendering resolution is what changes between them. That is why the meaningful step is the one towards performance mode.
Free settings and Multi Frame Generation with DLSS on RTX 50 cards, which lifts performance considerably. We have no measured frame rates for this game, so we are not quoting per-GPU figures.
Both get the same three display modes as PlayStation. Series X sits level with PS5 on internal resolution, below PS5 Pro.
