Quick verdict

The best version of Resident Evil Requiem is the PC one, and on console PS5 Pro leads.

Best graphics experience PC path tracing: light sources no console has, plus DLSS 4
Best console experience PS5 Pro the only console with ray tracing, and it holds 60 fps
Best console for the money Xbox Series X 46.95 € key, with one mode at a locked 60 fps
The only portable version Switch 2 renders above Series S, at an uneven 60 FPS

Why PC wins

Path tracing is what separates PC from the rest: more realistic global illumination, more accurate shadows and better reflections, with light sources that simply do not exist on console. It also gets DLSS 4 and frame generation, multi-frame included.

PS5 Pro leads on console

On console only PS5 Pro has ray tracing, and it holds it at 60 FPS. Turn it off and the frame rate goes variable, between 85 and 120. Its ray tracing sits a little below PC's low setting, though it shows less noise in dark areas and on metal, partly because it disables the effect on some surfaces.

PS5 and Series X, level

PS5 and Xbox Series X are level: one mode, a locked 60 FPS and no ray tracing.

Switch 2, the only portable one

Switch 2 shares Xbox Series S's cutbacks against PS5: geometry, texturing, shadows, hair quality and lighting. In exchange it renders at a higher resolution than Microsoft's console and has some better textures. It targets 60 FPS too, but rarely holds it steady, and load times are slightly longer.

Switch 2 targets 60 FPS as well, but the analysis warns it rarely holds steady: an option to lock it at 30 would have helped.

Price on each platform

The best live offer for each version, every price with its format.

Resident Evil Requiem on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and PC: graphics comparison

  • PS5 and Xbox Series X have a single display mode, at 60 FPS and without ray tracing.
  • PS5 Pro is the only console that runs with ray tracing at 60 FPS.
  • Turn ray tracing off on PS5 Pro and the frame rate goes variable, up to 120 FPS.
  • The PC version in the comparison runs at maximum settings.
  • The clearest differences are on PC, thanks to path tracing: more realistic global illumination, more accurate shadows and better reflections.

Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 versus PS5 Pro

  • PS5 offers no display modes. PS5 Pro does let you switch ray tracing on or off.
  • With ray tracing off, PS5 Pro targets 120 FPS and swings between 85 and 120.
  • PS5 cannot unlock its frame rate: it stays at 60 FPS at all times.
  • Beyond ray tracing and the lighting changes it brings, both consoles use very similar settings.
  • The performance-to-quality balance is very good on both, with visible gains on PS5 Pro.

Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 Pro versus PC maxed out

  • The comparison pits PS5 Pro in ray tracing mode against PC at maximum settings with path tracing.
  • PS5 Pro's ray tracing sits slightly below the low ray tracing setting on PC.
  • In exchange, PS5 Pro shows less noise in dark areas and on metallic surfaces.
  • Some metallic surfaces have ray tracing disabled on PS5 Pro precisely to avoid that noise.
  • With path tracing on, PC adds extra light sources and clearly improves some areas over PS5 Pro.

Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series S: graphics comparison

  • There are no display modes to pick on console, Switch 2 and Xbox Series S included.
  • Switch 2 and Series S cut back geometry, texturing, shadows, hair quality and lighting against PS5.
  • Switch 2 renders at a higher resolution than Series S and has some better textures.
  • All three platforms target 60 FPS, but Switch 2 rarely holds it steady.
  • The analysis misses an option to lock the frame rate at 30 FPS on Switch 2.
  • Load times are slightly longer on Switch 2.
  • Even with that uneven performance the handheld version is enjoyable; what the analysis asks for is VRR support in the dock.

Resident Evil Requiem on PC: first-person versus third-person camera

  • The development team treats first person as the main, recommended perspective.
  • Third person adds extra animations and comes out far better than the same mode in Resident Evil Village.
  • Transitions and some cutscenes are built around first person, though switching from third person never feels abrupt.
  • The video was captured on the PC version, at Ultra settings with ray tracing on an RTX 5090.
  • The game will ship with DLSS 4 and full Nvidia support in its settings.

Frequently asked questions about Resident Evil Requiem

Which platform does Resident Evil Requiem look best on?

PC, and path tracing sets the gap: more realistic global illumination, more accurate shadows and better reflections. On console, the best image is PS5 Pro, the only one with ray tracing.

How many graphics modes are there on console?

One. Neither PS5, nor Xbox Series X, nor Series S, nor Switch 2 offer display modes to choose from. PS5 Pro is the exception: it lets you switch ray tracing on or off from the settings.

What frame rate does it hit on console?

A locked 60 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, with no way to unlock it. PS5 Pro also runs at 60 with ray tracing on, and turning it off gives a variable frame rate between 85 and 120. Switch 2 targets 60 too, but rarely holds it steady.

What does PS5 Pro add over PS5?

Ray tracing, and the lighting changes that come with it. Beyond that both consoles use very similar settings. The other perk is being able to turn ray tracing off and push up to 120 FPS.

How does PS5 Pro's ray tracing compare with PC?

It sits slightly below PC's low ray tracing setting. In exchange it shows less noise in dark areas and on metallic surfaces, partly because the effect is switched off entirely on some of those surfaces.

Does it have path tracing?

On PC only. It is what adds the extra light sources and what opens the biggest gap over PS5 Pro. No console version has it.

Does Xbox Series X have ray tracing?

No. The video analysis is explicit: Series X runs a single 60 FPS mode with no ray tracing, same as PS5. The official Xbox catalogue does not declare it for this game either.

Which upscalers does the PC version support?

DLSS 4, FSR 3.1 and FSR 1.0, plus frame generation with DLSS, DLSS multi-frame and FSR.

How good is the Switch 2 version?

It has been analysed now. It shares Xbox Series S's cutbacks against PS5 (geometry, texturing, shadows, hair quality and lighting), though it renders at a higher resolution than Series S and has some better textures. It targets 60 FPS like the other consoles, but rarely holds it steady, and its load times are slightly longer.

Which one is cheapest?

The cheapest key is on PC, at 38.41 €. On Xbox the key goes up to 46.95 €, on Switch 2 to 49.99 €, and on PS5 the only key is the PlayStation Store one at 79.99 €. Watch out for account offers, which come out cheaper because they are not a purchase in your name.
