Quick verdict

Of the versions actually measured, Xbox One X gives the best image.

Best graphics experience Xbox One X up to 2936x1652 upsampled to 3840x2160, with a 4K UI
Best console experience Xbox One X the highest resolution of the five versions counted
Best for the money Xbox One cheapest key, and it is the same purchase that runs on One X

Why Xbox One X wins

One X counts the most pixels: its dynamic resolution runs between roughly 2133x1200 and 2936x1652, temporal upsampling takes it to 3840x2160, and the UI is drawn at 4K outright. PS4 Pro sits below that, between 1920x1080 and around 2496x1404.

A trick if you play on PS4 Pro

Hook a PS4 Pro up to a 1080p set and the game and UI render at a native 1920x1080, which improves performance in some scenes. Between PS4 and Xbox One there is no argument: both are locked to 1920x1080.

Switch, the only portable one

Docked, Switch moves between roughly 1536x864 and 1920x1080; handheld, between about 1024x576 and 1280x720. It is the most cut-back version, and the only one you can take with you.

The analysis description only details resolutions, so we do not quote frame rates per platform. There is no usable published data for the PC version or for current-generation consoles.
