Quick verdict

There is no good console version of MindsEye: all three sit at 30fps with heavy stutter, and PC is the only place the game breathes.

Best graphics experience PC no 30fps cap and no drops to 720p
Best console experience PS5 Pro a bit more texturing, terrain and shadow detail, and little else
Best for the money Xbox the cheapest key for this game sits on Xbox

The same ceiling everywhere

PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series share one ceiling: 30fps and stuttering the analysis puts on a par with the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. All three lean on dynamic resolution and drop as low as 720p.

PS5 Pro barely moves the needle

The game is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but what it actually gains is a little more texturing, slightly more terrain detail and better shadows. That is the whole list, and the analysis calls the label out.

Series S takes the worst of it

Series S falls to 430p, drops shadows, cuts lighting and overdoes texturing. It is the version with the least optimisation work of the three.

What PC gives you

Our own measurements on the Epic preset give 94-107 fps on an RTX 5090, 77-87 on an RTX 4090 and 60-70 on an RTX 4080. It is the only platform where the game clears the 30fps ceiling the consoles are locked to.

MindsEye on Xbox Series, PS5 and PS5 Pro: graphics comparison

  • The comparison uses the latest hotfix released by Build a Rocket Boy.
  • Every version runs at 30fps with stuttering he has not seen since the PS3 and Xbox 360 era.
  • The game uses dynamic resolution on every console: it can fall to 430p on Series S and to 720p on the rest.
  • PS5 Pro only brings a slight improvement to texturing, terrain detail and shadows.
  • Series S drops shadows, cuts lighting and overdoes texturing to a point where, in his words, optimisation simply does not exist.
  • Being listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced is worth complaining about: the enhancements are practically non-existent.
  • His verdict, judged purely on optimisation and technical work, is that MindsEye is not worth it for now.

Resolution, modes and FPS come from the video analyses above. The rest is published by each platform's official store and by the game's technical sheet on PC. Where nobody publishes the figure we put a dash, not a guess.

Frequently asked questions about MindsEye

Which platform does MindsEye look best on?

PC. All three console versions are locked to 30fps, with dynamic resolution falling to 720p and constant stutter. On PC, at the Epic preset, an RTX 4080 runs between 60 and 70fps.

Is it worth playing on PS5 Pro?

Barely. The game is listed as PS5 Pro Enhanced, but what you get is slightly better texturing, terrain detail and shadows. It still runs at 30fps with the same stutter as the rest.

How does it run on Xbox Series S?

It is the most cut-down version: resolution can fall to 430p, shadows disappear, lighting is trimmed and texturing is overdone. The analysis is blunt about it: there is no optimisation work there.

Does any console run it at 60fps?

No. None of the console versions goes above 30fps, not even PS5 Pro or Series X.

What graphics card do I need on PC?

On the Epic preset we measured 94-107 fps on an RTX 5090, 77-87 on an RTX 4090, 64-74 on an RTX 5080 and 60-70 on an RTX 4080. We have measured 31 cards on this game in total.

Has the stuttering been fixed?

The analysis was made with the latest Build a Rocket Boy hotfix available at the time, and the stutter was still there on every console version.
