Quick verdict

The best version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the PC one, and on console there is only one option: PS5.

Best graphics experience PC ray tracing, ultrawide and four upscalers, DLSS 4 among them
Best console experience PS5 the only console the game exists on at all
Best performance for the money PC the key at 36.52 €, against 44.88 € on PS5
Best on the go ROG Xbox Ally X runs on medium settings; Steam Deck needs low ones

Why PC wins

On PC you set resolution and quality yourself, and that is the edge: ray tracing, HDR, ultrawide, adjustable field of view and four upscalers (DLSS 4, FSR 3.1, XeSS 1.3 and TAAU) with frame generation from both NVIDIA and AMD. We have no measured FPS of our own for this game, so the figure depends on your card.

The two PS5 modes

On PS5 the choice is between two modes. On a 60 Hz TV, quality runs at dynamic 2160p and 30 FPS, and performance drops to dynamic 1440p to hold 60, cutting shadows, traffic, draw distance, reflections and ambient occlusion. A 120 Hz TV opens a third route: quality at dynamic 1800p and 40 FPS, which unlimited VRR pushes to 40-50.

What each one costs

On price, the PC key sits at 36.52 € and the PS5 key at 44.88 €. Account offers come out far cheaper — 12.43 € on PS5 and 16.29 € on PC — because they are not a purchase in your name.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PS5: quality mode versus performance mode

  • PS5 has two display modes: quality and performance.
  • On a 60 Hz TV, quality runs at dynamic 2160p, dropping as low as 1656p, at 30 FPS.
  • Performance mode sits at dynamic 1440p, with lows of 1260p, and holds 60 FPS.
  • That mode cuts resolution, shadow filtering, traffic and pedestrian density, draw distance, reflections and ambient occlusion.
  • At 120 Hz, quality mode lowers the rendering resolution to dynamic 1800p in exchange for 40 FPS.
  • The 120 Hz mode supports VRR with two settings: soft, which keeps the rendering resolution, and unlimited, which raises the frame rate by widening the dynamic resolution range downwards.
  • With unlimited VRR the game runs at 40-50 FPS in quality and 60-80 FPS in performance.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on ROG Xbox Ally X, Steam Deck and PS5: graphics comparison

  • The comparison puts two handheld PCs, ROG Xbox Ally X and Steam Deck, against the PS5 version.
  • Steam Deck runs on low and very low settings. The Ally X runs on medium, closer to the original PS5 settings in performance mode.
  • Ray tracing is off on both handhelds.
  • His frame generation rule: turn it on above 40 FPS and never below 35. If the game cannot hit that natively, drop settings instead.
  • Spider-Man 2 is one of the most demanding PlayStation Studios games right now, and the ROG Xbox Ally X result surprises him.
