Why PC wins

On PC you set resolution and quality yourself, and you get what no console offers: ray tracing with free settings, DLSS 4, FSR 3.1 and XeSS 2.0, frame generation from all three, and an adjustable field of view.

On console

On console, PS5 and Xbox Series X share the same five modes and the same resolutions: an 1800p render at 30 FPS in quality, 1440p and 60 in performance, 1440p and 30 with ray tracing and 1080p at around 80 FPS in HFR. PS5 wins on quality-mode shadows, on ray tracing performance and on loading times; Series X holds a higher frame rate in every other mode. PS5 Pro raises the bar further: ray-traced shadows and reflections, 1800p in the ray tracing mode and a performance mode that no longer cuts settings.

Series S, Switch 2 and the previous generation

Below that, Series S drops to 1440p and 30 FPS in quality and 1080p and 60 in performance, with no ray tracing and lower NPC density. Switch 2 has no modes at all: 1440p and 30 FPS docked thanks to DLSS, a result close to PS4 Pro, and it is the only version you take out of the house. The PS4 and Xbox One versions hold up, but they cut draw distance and lighting and load up to eight times slower.

It asks for hardware in return: at 1080p on Very high, an RTX 4090 lands at 77-89 FPS, and it is the fastest of the 29 cards we measured in this game.

  • Switch 2 has no display modes in this game, so the comparison uses each platform's highest quality mode.
  • PS5 hits 2160p at 30 FPS in quality, drops to 1440p to hold 60 in performance, and has its own ray tracing mode at 1440p and 30 FPS.

  • Ray tracing covers shadows, reflections (except water) and ambient occlusion, blended with conventional lighting, and it generates plenty of noise on console and on PC.

Is the PS4 or Xbox One version worth it?

With patience, yes. PS4 runs at 900p and 30 FPS, PS4 Pro at 1080p and 30, Xbox One at 720p and 30 and Xbox One X at 1440p and 30, and the frame rate can be unlocked: up to 60 FPS indoors on PS4 Pro and up to 40 on Xbox One X.
