Quick verdict

Grounded 2 looks best on PC, but runs more predictably on Xbox Series X.

Best graphics experience PC lighting and reflections well ahead of console
Best console experience Xbox Series X the only one with both a quality and a performance mode
Best for the money Xbox Series X no high-end GPU needed: even an RTX 5090 sits at 40-60 FPS at 4K

What PC gains

Lighting sets the gap, and reflections above all: the PC version sits clearly ahead of both consoles there. The catch is the other side of the deal, because the graphics options are thin and performance does not follow.

Xbox Series X

Series X is the only console with two modes. Quality runs at 30 FPS with better global illumination and more resolution; performance chases 60 FPS and cannot hold them yet. That mode also shows some noise in ambient occlusion.

Series S and the state of the game

Series S gets a single 30 FPS mode and carries the same ambient occlusion noise. Worth remembering that the game is in Early Access and the analysis blames the move to Unreal Engine 5 for these issues.

Grounded 2 is in Early Access: neither today's image quality nor today's performance represents the final version.

Grounded 2 on Xbox Series S, Series X and PC

  • The game is in Early Access, so its current quality does not represent the final product.
  • Xbox Series X offers two modes, quality and performance; Series S only gets one, at 30 FPS.
  • Series X quality mode targets 30 FPS with better global illumination and a higher resolution.
  • Performance mode aims for 60 FPS but cannot hold them consistently right now.
  • Series X performance mode and the Series S version both show some noise in ambient occlusion areas.
  • The PC version is considerably better on lighting, and reflections in particular.
  • On PC the graphics options are limited and performance could be much better: 40-60 FPS on average at 4K with an RTX 5090.
  • He puts the rough Early Access launch down to the move to Unreal Engine 5.

Full platform comparison

Resolution, modes and FPS come from the video analyses above. The rest is published by each platform's official store and by the game's technical sheet on PC. Where nobody publishes the figure we put a dash, not a guess.

Frequently asked questions about Grounded 2

Where does Grounded 2 look best?

On PC, and lighting makes the difference, reflections most of all. In exchange, its graphics options are limited and performance is underwhelming.

How many graphics modes are there on Xbox?

Series X has two: quality, at 30 FPS with better global illumination and a higher resolution, and performance, which targets 60 FPS without holding them yet. Series S has a single mode at 30 FPS.

What GPU do I need on PC?

The analysis measures 40-60 FPS on average at 4K with an RTX 5090, so performance lags behind what you would expect. No other cards have been measured in this game.

Does it run well on Xbox Series S?

It runs, but with a single 30 FPS mode and some noise in ambient occlusion areas, the same issue seen in Series X performance mode.

Is now a good time to jump in?

The game is in Early Access and its launch has been bumpy. The analysis points at the move to Unreal Engine 5 and expects optimisation to improve over the coming months.
