Quick verdict

The best version of Far Cry 6 is the PC one, and on console Xbox Series X edges ahead.

Best graphics experience PC the only one with ray-traced reflections and shadows, plus CAS
Best console experience Xbox Series X the highest resolution of the group and the HD texture pack
Best for the money Xbox Series X the cheapest keys on a dynamic 2160p, 60 FPS build

Why PC wins

PC is the only version with ray-traced reflections and shadows, and those shadows also improve ambient occlusion. It adds the longest draw distance, it is the only one with CAS adaptive contrast, and it supports HDR, 4K and an adjustable field of view. Of the 27 cards we measured on the Very high preset, the RX 6900 XT LC hits 133-163 FPS and the RTX 3080 lands at 120-144.

On console

PS5 and Series X both run at a dynamic 2160p and 60 FPS averaging close to 1800p, but Series X climbs higher in some areas and peaks at 3840x2160 against 3392x1908 on PS5. In return, PS5 has better reflections and loads half a second sooner. Series S stays at a dynamic 1440p with slightly shorter draw distance.

If you are still on last-gen

Xbox One X is the surprise: it holds native 4K at 30 FPS in the areas tested. PS4 Pro sits at 1440p and PS4 at 1080p, both at 30 FPS and with loads over 35 seconds. Xbox One is the weakest, at 900p and with more tearing in cutscenes.

On every console the cutscenes drop to 30 FPS and stutter on camera cuts; no setting fixes it.

Far Cry 6 on PS5, Xbox Series and PC: graphics comparison

  • PS5 and Series X run at a dynamic 2160p and 60 FPS, Series S at a dynamic 1440p and 60 FPS. The PC version was captured at 2160p with FSR on an RTX 3080.
  • The average resolution measured is around 1800p on PS5 and Series X, though Series X goes higher in some areas.
  • PS5 has better reflections than the Xbox consoles, but PC is the only version with ray-traced reflections.
  • DXR shadows on PC add both number and quality and improve ambient occlusion, though they cause glitches on certain assets.
  • PS5, Series X and PC all include the extra 26 GB texture pack; on PC some textures fail to load properly and show at a lower resolution.
  • PC is the only version with CAS, which adapts contrast dynamically.
  • Draw distance is longest on PC, equal on PS5 and Series X, and slightly shorter on Series S.
  • Frame rate is practically perfect except in cutscenes, which run at 30 FPS and stutter.

Far Cry 6 on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5

  • PS5 runs at a dynamic 2160p and 60 FPS averaging 1800p; PS4 Pro at 1440p and 30 FPS, PS4 at 1080p and 30 FPS.
  • PS5 raises SSR reflection resolution, shadow resolution and anisotropic filtering over the other two.
  • PS5 includes an extra 26 GB texture pack that improves some textures over every other version.
  • Draw distance is longer on PS5, and shorter on PS4 than on PS4 Pro.
  • Loading times on PS5 never exceed 8 seconds; on PS4 and PS4 Pro they run past 35.
  • Frame rate is practically perfect on all three, except in cutscenes, which run at 30 FPS and stutter.

Far Cry 6 on Xbox One versus Xbox Series

  • Xbox One runs at 900p and 30 FPS, One X at 2160p and 30 FPS, Series X at a dynamic 2160p and 60 FPS and Series S at a dynamic 1440p and 60 FPS.
  • Xbox One X is the only console holding native 4K at 30 FPS in the areas tested, exactly as it did with Far Cry 5.
  • Series X and Series S get an HD texture pack that improves part of the texturing; the rest stays at a similar level.
  • The Series consoles add draw distance and better quality on some shadows, and they load much faster.
  • Anisotropic filtering is higher on One X and Series X.
  • SSR reflections on the Series consoles have resolution problems that look like a bug.
  • Every platform holds an acceptable frame rate, though Xbox One suffers more tearing, especially in cutscenes.

Far Cry 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series: resolution and frame rate test

  • He tested version 1.1.0 on all three consoles, with the HD texture pack installed on PS5 and Series X.
  • PS5 uses a dynamic resolution between 3392x1908 and roughly 2944x1656.
  • Series X runs from 3840x2160 down to roughly 3072x1728.
  • Series S sits between 2560x1440 and 1920x1080, and pixel counts at 1440p are rare.
  • Cutscenes are letterboxed and PS5 can reach 3840x1608 in them.
  • PS5 and Series X improve on Series S in draw distance, LOD transition distance and texture quality.
  • Cutscenes run at 30 FPS and can stutter when the camera cuts.

Far Cry 6 on PS4 and Xbox One: resolution and frame rate test

  • He tested version 1.1.0 on all four consoles.
  • PS4 Pro uses a dynamic resolution between 2560x1440 and roughly 2496x1404, and dropping below 1440p is rare.
  • Xbox One X runs from 3840x2160 down to roughly 3136x1764.
  • PS4 moves between 1920x1080 and roughly 1792x1008, and dropping below 1080p is rare.
  • Xbox One S runs from 1440x900 down to roughly 1372x860.
  • The menu targets 60 FPS but drops below it on some screens, such as the map.

Which platform does Far Cry 6 look best on?

PC. It is the only version with ray-traced reflections and shadows, it has the longest draw distance and it is the only one with CAS adaptive contrast. On console, the best image is Xbox Series X.

Does it run better on PS5 or Xbox Series X?

They are very close: both at a dynamic 2160p and 60 FPS, averaging near 1800p. Series X climbs higher in some areas and peaks at 3840x2160 against 3392x1908 on PS5. PS5 keeps better reflections and loads half a second sooner.

What graphics card do I need on PC?
