Quick verdict

PC gives Black Ops 6 the most headroom, and on console PS5 and Xbox Series X are dead level.

Best graphics experience PC 178-212 FPS on an RX 7900 XTX at the Extreme preset
Best console experience PS5 dynamic 2160p at 60 FPS, level with Series X
Best for the money Xbox Series S keeps the 120 FPS mode at a dynamic 1080p

Why PC wins

In a competitive shooter frames are the currency, and PC has no ceiling. At the Extreme preset we measured 33 cards: a Radeon RX 7900 XTX delivers 178-212 FPS and an RTX 4090 144-212. On console you have to trade resolution for refresh rate.

PS5 and Series X, identical

The beta shows no gap between PS5 and Xbox Series X: both run a dynamic 2160p at 60 FPS, and both fall to a dynamic 1440p once you switch to the 120Hz mode. Pick whichever one your squad is on.

Series S and last gen

Series S keeps both modes, at a dynamic 1440p/60 and a dynamic 1080p/120. PS4 and PS4 Pro get a single 60 FPS mode, at a dynamic 1080p and 1512p respectively.

These figures come from the beta: the final build may have changed resolutions and frame rate targets.

Black Ops 6 on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC: the beta compared

  • PS5 and Xbox Series X behave identically: a dynamic 2160p at 60 FPS in the 60Hz mode.
  • In the 120Hz mode, PS5 and Series X drop to a dynamic 1440p to hold 120 FPS.
  • Xbox Series S runs a dynamic 1440p at 60 FPS, and a dynamic 1080p at 120 FPS.
  • PS4 targets a dynamic 1080p at 60 FPS; PS4 Pro raises that to a dynamic 1512p at the same frame rate.
  • Every console version leans on dynamic resolution to protect its frame rate target.

Black Ops 6 on PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5: what changes inside PlayStation

  • PS4 runs at a dynamic 1080p with a 60 FPS target.
  • PS4 Pro pushes the resolution to a dynamic 1512p and keeps the 60 FPS target.
  • PS5 reaches a dynamic 2160p at 60 FPS in its 60Hz mode.
  • PS5 adds a 120Hz mode that drops to a dynamic 1440p to double the frame rate.
  • Within PlayStation the jump is resolution, not frame rate: all three aim at the same 60 FPS.

Frequently asked questions about Call of Duty Black Ops 6

Which platform does Black Ops 6 look best on?

PC, since there is no cap on resolution or frame rate. On console, PS5 and Xbox Series X are level: a dynamic 2160p at 60 FPS, or a dynamic 1440p if you switch to the 120Hz mode.

Is there any difference between PS5 and Xbox Series X?

None that the beta measures. Both offer the 60Hz mode at a dynamic 2160p and the 120Hz mode at a dynamic 1440p, with the same frame rate targets.

Is it worth playing on Xbox Series S?

Yes, if smoothness is what you are after. Series S keeps both modes: a dynamic 1440p at 60 FPS and a dynamic 1080p at 120 FPS, something neither PS4 nor PS4 Pro can offer.

How does it run on PS4 and PS4 Pro?

Both target 60 FPS, and the difference is resolution: a dynamic 1080p on PS4 against a dynamic 1512p on PS4 Pro. Neither has a 120Hz mode.

What graphics card do I need on PC?

We measured 33 cards at the Extreme preset. A Radeon RX 7900 XTX delivers 178-212 FPS, an RTX 4080 Super 125-197 and an RX 6950 XT 123-170. There is plenty of room for 120 FPS without top-end hardware.

Do all consoles get 120 FPS?

No. The 120Hz mode exists on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. PS4 and PS4 Pro are limited to a single 60 FPS mode.
