Snowed Under is a first-person horror adventure from Japanese indie studio Chilla's Art that tasks you with an endless excavation through a snow-buried mountain landscape. Armed with a shovel, you dig deeper into the white expanse, uncovering landmarks, abandoned structures, and scrap materials scattered beneath the surface. These discoveries serve a dual purpose: they piece together the mystery of what happened in this forsaken place, while the materials themselves upgrade your core capabilities—digging strength, stamina, and inventory capacity—allowing you to progress further into the unknown.

The gameplay loop centers on methodical digging and exploration. As you carve through the snow, you'll encounter food, buildings, and stranger things entirely, each discovery raising new questions about your surroundings. The game's progression is driven by both mechanical upgrades and narrative revelation, creating a sense of purpose beyond mere resource gathering.

What sets Snowed Under apart is its tonal shift as you advance. Early moments feel grounded and exploratory, but the further you dig, the more the atmosphere warps into psychological horror. Abandoned train yards, derelict gas stations, and unsettling humanoid creatures with unnatural smiles suggest something far darker lies beneath the snow. This tonal escalation mirrors the structure of Chilla's Art's previous titles, building dread through environmental storytelling and the gradual unraveling of a dark truth.

Your journey is not solitary. Kai, your loyal friend and constant NPC companion, joins you throughout the expedition. Your conversations with Kai form the emotional and narrative core of the experience, revealing layers about both characters and the world itself. The relationship between you and Kai shapes how the story unfolds and ultimately concludes.

With an estimated playtime of 2-4 hours, Snowed Under delivers a focused, atmospheric experience built on Unreal Engine. It appeals to players drawn to psychological horror, immersive exploration, and games that blend mundane mechanics with existential dread. The title is ideal for those who appreciate indie horror that prioritizes atmosphere and narrative over action.
