You are tasked with repairing a water treatment plant in a remote swampy region, but what begins as a straightforward engineering job quickly spirals into something far more unsettling. As you venture deeper into the facility, the environment grows increasingly strange, and the people you encounter become progressively peculiar. Sludge Department is a point-and-click puzzle adventure that blends exploration with environmental storytelling, creating an atmosphere of creeping unease.

The core gameplay loop revolves around solving interconnected puzzles to progress through the facility. You'll encounter both 2D and 3D puzzle challenges that require observation, logic, and experimentation. The game can be played entirely with the mouse, though keyboard input is available as a supplement for those who prefer it. Each puzzle serves both as a mechanical obstacle and as a window into the facility's mysterious history and the strange happenings within its depths.

What sets Sludge Department apart is its commitment to atmosphere and narrative discovery. Rather than relying on exposition, the game reveals its story through environmental details, character interactions, and the puzzles themselves. The hand-drawn art style and stylized visuals create a distinctive aesthetic that balances dark humor with genuine unease, making the journey through the sludge both engaging and unsettling.

The game features multiple endings and encourages exploration beyond the critical path, rewarding curiosity with additional lore and secrets. This structure appeals to players who enjoy puzzle games with substance—those seeking more than just mechanical challenges but also a cohesive world with something to say. The combination of puzzle-solving, exploration, and narrative mystery makes it ideal for fans of adventure games who appreciate atmosphere and environmental storytelling.
