Phoenix Cyclops joins Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls as the first Year 1 DLC character, bringing a fresh interpretation of the iconic X-Men leader. This version combines a wide variety of Optic Blast attacks with the devastating power of the Phoenix Force. The character's appearance is based on his character in the Avengers vs. X-Men comic series.

As an all-rounder fighter, Phoenix Cyclops excels both at range and in close-quarters combat. He is comfortable at range or up close, with his optic blasts and fire-based attacks that control the screen. The character introduces a unique resource management system to the game's mechanics. Using Optic Blasts accumulates Solar Shards, and once 4 have been collected, players can transform Cyclops into his Dark Phoenix form, gaining a significant but temporary power boost, though there is a risk/reward element as it also depletes his health, requiring careful management.

Phoenix Cyclops represents Arc System Works' deliberate design choice to differentiate the character from previous fighting game appearances. Cyclops has appeared in numerous Marvel fighting games with a firmly established visual identity and battle style, so the developers challenged themselves to present him differently, creating fresher visuals and a more exciting fighting style while offering something unexpected for players. On the same day as his arrival, Cyclops' "Classic" and "Legacy" DLC costumes also become available.

The DLC character is voiced by Ray Chase and targets players seeking depth in tag-team combat mechanics. Whether you prefer the Phoenix-enhanced aesthetic or opt for classic costumes, Phoenix Cyclops delivers a mechanically distinct addition to the 4v4 roster.
