Heir of the Dog is a hilariously British point-and-click adventure set in the dark, fog-laden streets of Victorian London. After a mysterious explosion rocks the city, the upper-class twit Cummerbund Bandersnatch stumbles upon his uncle's laboratory and discovers an experimental formula promising a "good time." Seduced by his uncle's journal, Cummerbund drinks the concoction—a decision that transforms his life in ways he never anticipated.

The game's core mechanic revolves around Bandersnatch's monstrous transformation, which occurs at night. This Jekyll-and-Hyde-inspired shift isn't merely cosmetic; it fundamentally alters the puzzle-solving experience. Players can switch between day and night settings, with each time period offering different locations, characters, and interactive possibilities. The transformation opens new pathways through the city and enables unique interactions that daylight versions of the world cannot provide, making the dual-form mechanic integral to progression.

Puzzle-solving drives the adventure forward, with challenges designed to leverage both of Bandersnatch's forms. Players must manipulate time, gather clues from a cast of eccentric characters ranging from talking lice to high-society aristocrats, and uncover a sinister conspiracy involving a secret society, the royal family, and an alarming number of missing dogs. The writing combines the irreverent surreal humor of classic British comedies like Blackadder and Monty Python with the literary inspiration of Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

The game features a fully voiced cast including Sally Beaumont, Shaun Mendum (Baldur's Gate 3), Alasdair Beckett-King, and Savy Des-Etages. Pixel art visuals evoke the golden age of LucasArts adventures, with meticulous character animation and atmospheric environments that bring Victorian London to life. The writing is sharp and witty, with puzzles that reward exploration and lateral thinking.

Heir of the Dog appeals to fans of classic point-and-click adventures who appreciate clever writing, intricate puzzles, and a darkly comedic tone. It's designed for players who enjoyed Lucy Dreaming, the developer's 2022 debut, or who seek story-driven adventures with genuine humor and mechanical depth. The game respects player intelligence—puzzles are logical but not obvious, and the transformation mechanic ensures that returning to familiar locations yields new discoveries.
