Folk-Tography is a 4-player cooperative extraction game set in Folk Valley, where players take on the role of cryptid hunters equipped with cameras and scientific instruments. The core loop revolves around venturing into the valley to photograph legendary creatures and investigate paranormal anomalies, then escaping with your evidence before the environment becomes too hostile. Success requires balancing exploration, documentation, and survival.

The gameplay emphasizes precision and teamwork. Players must capture high-quality photographs of cryptids using an in-depth camera system with a photo rating mechanic that grades shots across multiple factors—composition, clarity, and subject behavior all influence your score. Anomalies present dynamic challenges that can range from repairing malfunctioning generators to investigating crashed UFOs, adding variety and danger to each expedition. Resource scarcity forces difficult decisions about equipment allocation and risk management.

Key mechanics include cooperative extraction gameplay where the entire team must reach the exit point together, paranormal investigation sequences that unlock lore and rewards, and a progression system tied to successful evidence collection. The stylized, colorful art direction contrasts with the survival tension, creating a distinctive atmosphere that blends horror elements with approachable aesthetics.

Folk-Tography differentiates itself by combining photography mechanics with extraction-based survival gameplay—a relatively unexplored intersection in cooperative gaming. Rather than combat-focused extraction, the emphasis on documentation and observation creates a unique tension. The game appeals to players seeking cooperative experiences that reward coordination and communication, fans of creature-collecting mechanics, and those drawn to mystery-driven narratives with paranormal themes. Early Access status means the core loop is playable, though systems remain in active development.
