Four people in one room, one screen, and at least one of them holding a controller for the first time that night. A party game either survives that or it does not, and plenty of games that look brilliant in a trailer fall apart the moment a non-gamer picks up the second pad. These twenty-one survive it, and every single one of them has live offers on our pages today.
Each entry below says the same handful of things: what you actually do in the game, the Steam verdict with the raw review count instead of a rounded percentage, how many offers and how many shops the page is comparing, and the cheapest figure with its format written out in full.
That last bit is the one people skip. Three of these twenty-one have something at the top of the cheapest offers that is not a copy at all, but access to somebody else’s profile: Boomerang Fu, LEGO Party and Heave Ho 2. In all three I ignore that offer and give you the first genuine key underneath it. There is also a fourth oddity, Nidhogg, where Steam itself undercuts every shop we track.
Shoving, brawling and falling over
Gang Beasts is the jelly-limbed one. Nobody can walk in a straight line, everybody grabs everybody, and the level does most of the killing. Steam calls it Very Positive on 46,434 positive reviews out of 54,628, which is a very large room agreeing. Our page compares 27 offers from 11 shops and the cheapest is €6.04 at Gamivo in Standard format. Steam charges €7.59 for the same thing. That is €1.55 of difference, so buy it wherever you feel like buying it.
Party Animals throws puppies, kittens and ducklings into a ragdoll fistfight and lets the physics engine write the jokes. It is the most widely stocked title here by a distance: 43 offers spread across 17 shops. The cheapest is €10.11 at Lootbar in Standard format, against €17.99 on Steam. Very Positive, with 45,256 positive out of 55,872 reviews. With that many shops on one page it is worth checking live rather than trusting a screenshot: right now the first Standard offer reads € (with coupon GOCDK13) at Lootbar.
Ultimate Chicken Horse is the best reviewed game on this list and it is not a close call: Overwhelmingly Positive, 38,877 positive out of 40,923. You take turns bolting saw blades and trapdoors onto a level, then everyone has to run through the mess you all built, including you. Steam asks €12.99. The cheapest copy across 23 offers from 12 shops is €4.48 at K4G in Standard format.

Rubber Bandits is a heist brawler where four robbers carry loot around a level and spend most of the round hitting each other with frying pans instead of escaping. Very Positive, 4,724 out of 5,624. Cheapest of 21 offers across 14 shops is €0.67 at Kinguin in Standard format, next to €8.99 on Steam. Less than a euro for a complete game only happens with the small ones, and this is one of them.
Boomerang Fu is food with boomerangs, slicing other food in half on a tiny arena, and it is Overwhelmingly Positive on 1,741 out of 1,795 reviews. Read this one carefully. The cheapest offer on the page, €4.61 at G2A, is a Steam Account: you would be logging into a profile that belongs to someone else, not owning a copy. The first real copy is €6.46 at Gamivo in Standard format. Steam wants €14.99, and we compare 19 offers from 9 shops.
Board games, turns and minigames
Pummel Party has an actual board, actual dice and an actual route around it, and then fills the gaps between turns with minigames built to end friendships. Very Positive, 40,510 out of 46,034. Prices barely move here: €13.16 at Gamivo in Standard format versus €14.79 on Steam, so €1.63 saved, from 11 offers across 7 shops. It is one of the least discounted games on the whole list.
The Jackbox Party Pack 6 needs one PC and nothing else, because everyone plays from their own phone through a browser. That is why it works with six people who did not come round to play video games. Very Positive, 2,196 out of 2,336. Cheapest is €8.88 at Driffle in Standard format against €16.49 on Steam, from 23 offers across 13 shops.
The Jackbox Party Pack 9 works the same way with a newer set of games and a much smaller sample of opinions: Very Positive, 506 out of 602. It sits at €10.87 at Kinguin in Standard format, against the same €16.49 Steam asks for pack six, with 16 offers from 11 shops.
The Jackbox Party Pack 11 is the newest of the three and the one shops cut least. Very Positive, 380 out of 413. It goes for €15.26 at Eneba in Standard format while Steam holds it at €22.49, from 10 offers across 8 shops. Recent packs always take months to come down.
LEGO Party is the brick version of the same idea, a board and a pile of minigames, and it landed Very Positive on 963 out of 1,107 reviews. Same warning as before: the €19.07 at G2A is a Steam Account, not a copy. The first genuine one is €21.10 at Eneba in Standard format. Even after ignoring the account, that is €15.89 below the €36.99 Steam charges, which makes it the biggest saving in euros in this section. 19 offers, 16 shops.
Couch co-op that starts arguments
PICO PARK is a co-op puzzle game for up to eight where one person misreading a ladder ruins the level for everybody. Very Positive, 21,588 out of 23,723. It costs €2.42 at K4G in Standard format against €3.99 on Steam, from 14 offers across 8 shops. At that gap you are choosing between two coffees.
Tricky Towers is falling blocks with real physics on top, plus spells you throw at the person next to you to knock their tower over. Very Positive, 11,145 out of 12,383. Cheapest is €4.77 at Kinguin in Standard format while Steam asks €14.99, out of 11 offers from 9 shops.
SOS OPS is four firefighters carrying furniture out of a burning building and setting each other on fire in the process. Check the format on this one before you click: the cheapest, €1.76 at Kinguin, is a GOG Key, DRM-free, not a Steam Key. If your group launches everything from Steam that matters. Steam sells it at €2.73. Very Positive, 3,215 out of 3,873, from 8 offers across 7 shops.
Heave Ho 2 is two hands, a lot of swinging and a chain of players who let go at the worst moment. Very Positive so far, but on a tiny sample of opinions: 87 out of 98. Third and last account warning. The €4.99 at Difmark is a Steam Account, so the first copy you actually own is €6.35 at Gaming Dragons in Standard format, against €9.99 on Steam. The page covers 9 offers from 8 shops.
Three-minute matches: duels, rhythm and chaos
ROUNDS is a two-player duel where each loss lets you pick a card that bends the rules, and after ten rounds nobody remembers what the original game was. Overwhelmingly Positive, 33,699 out of 35,473. It is €1.99 at Gamivo in Standard format, Steam €2.74, from 15 offers across 12 shops.
Nidhogg is the one that breaks the point of this article. The cheapest offer on its page is Steam itself, €5.36 in Standard format, and no shop we track goes under it. The next one up is €7.06 at Kinguin. We compare 10 offers from 6 shops and the official store wins, so that is where you should buy it. Very Positive, 5,135 out of 5,706. Sword fencing, one plane, one screen, endless swearing.
Retimed slows time to a crawl every time a bullet gets close, which turns four-player deathmatch into a series of very slow, very stupid decisions. Very Positive, 128 out of 142. This is the widest gap on the list in percentage terms: €0.38 at Kinguin in Standard format against €14.90 on Steam, from 10 offers across 8 shops.
Levelhead is a precision platformer with a level editor attached and a permanent supply of levels made by other people. Overwhelmingly Positive, 833 out of 877. It sits at €0.39 at Kinguin in Standard format, with Steam at €4.99 and 13 offers across 9 shops.
Garfield Lasagna Party is a licensed board game with minigames that nobody asked for, and the people who tried it came out happy: Very Positive, 123 out of 148. It also holds the biggest gap in euros anywhere on this list. €1.02 at Gamivo in Standard format while Steam still asks €29.99, a difference of €28.97, across 13 offers from 12 shops. If you want it now, buy Garfield Lasagna Party key.
Super Crazy Rhythm Castle mixes rhythm sections with co-op puzzles, and it is the only game here rated Mostly Positive: 292 out of 374. Cheapest is €2.14 at Eneba in Standard format against €19.99 on Steam, from 19 offers across 13 shops.
Headbangers Rhythm Royale is a battle royale of pigeons doing rhythm minigames, and it is the one title on this list with a lukewarm verdict. Steam rates it Mixed, 678 positive out of 983 reviews. People did not take to it, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. At €0.49 at K4G in Standard format, with Steam at €3.49 and 36 offers from 16 shops, treat it as a cheap gamble rather than a recommendation.
If you are only buying one
For a group that has never done this before, Ultimate Chicken Horse is the safe answer: the rules fit on a napkin and it has the best review record on the list. For a group that already argues about rulesets, Party Animals or Pummel Party will keep six people busy for a whole evening, though neither is remotely cheap by comparison. And if the budget is a couple of euros, Retimed and Levelhead cost less than a bus ticket each.
One habit is worth more than any of these picks. Before you click, read the format. Across these twenty-one pages the cheapest offer is a copy you own eighteen times, somebody else’s account three times, and once, on Nidhogg, that copy happens to belong to Steam. Knowing which of those you are looking at is most of the job.
