Avowed looks best on PC, and on Xbox the mode to pick is balanced.
It is the only version that keeps ray tracing without paying for it in resolution or frame rate. Testing was done at max settings with ray tracing on, and every 40 and 50 series card clears 60fps with DLSS 3. Of the 33 GPUs we measured on the Epic preset, an RTX 4090 delivers 95-112 FPS and an RX 7900 XTX 81-95.
Series X has three modes, but performance is expensive: it drops ray tracing and lowers lighting, texturing and draw distance even below Series S. Balanced keeps ray tracing and dynamic 2160p at 40fps, and it is what the analysis recommends.
Series S sits at dynamic 1080p and only gets quality and balanced. Balanced needs a 120Hz display and switches off ray-traced reflections while cutting lighting and draw distance, but it is still the mode to choose.
⚠ Balanced mode, on both Series X and Series S, only appears if you have a 120Hz display.

Resolution, modes and FPS come from the video analyses above. The rest is published by each platform's official store and by the game's technical sheet on PC. Where nobody publishes the figure we put a dash, not a guess.

PC. It is the only one where ray tracing sits alongside max settings without cutting resolution or frame rate. On Xbox, the best image is Series X in balanced mode, at dynamic 2160p and 40fps with ray tracing.
Balanced. It keeps ray tracing and dynamic 2160p at 40fps. Performance mode reaches generally stable 60fps but removes ray tracing and lowers lighting, texturing and draw distance below even the Series S version.
At dynamic 1080p, with a quality mode at 30fps and a balanced mode at 40fps. Balanced turns off ray-traced reflections and cuts lighting and draw distance, but it is the mode the analysis recommends. Series S has no performance mode.
For balanced mode, yes: it only shows up on 120Hz TVs, on both Series X and Series S. Without one you are left with quality at 30fps, plus the 60fps performance mode on Series X.
In testing, every NVIDIA 40 and 50 series card clears 60fps at max settings with DLSS 3 at its recommended resolution. Of the 33 GPUs we measured on the Epic preset, an RTX 4090 runs at 95-112 FPS and an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER at 72-85.
Not with these measurements. The available comparison covers Xbox Series X, Series S and PC, so we leave the PS5 cells empty rather than estimating them.
