Quick verdict

Atomic Heart looks best on PC, PS5 and Series X are level, and Series S got the worst deal.

Best graphics experience PC more draw distance, shadows and vegetation, and the only one with ray tracing
Best console experience PS5 same resolution range as Series X and faster loading
Best for the money PC RTX 4070 Ti: 138-162 fps on the ATOMIC preset

Why PC wins

The PC build adds draw distance, shadow quality, textures, anisotropic filtering, post-processing and vegetation density over the consoles, and it is the only version with ray tracing. It also loads fastest. The catch is a set of broken SSR reflections.

PS5 and Series X match

They share the same dynamic resolution range: 2160p indoors and between 1620p and 1800p outdoors, both targeting 60fps. The only measured difference is loading, which is quicker on PS5.

Series S falls short

It drops to a dynamic 1080p, commonly 900p outdoors, and even then it cannot hold 60fps in the open. The analysis puts that down to weak optimisation rather than the hardware.

No setting fixes this: every version stutters on enemy animations, and console cutscenes still drop to 30fps now and then.

Atomic Heart on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC: graphics comparison

  • Series X and PS5 apply the same dynamic resolution range: 1620p~1800p outdoors and 2160p indoors.
  • Series S sits at a dynamic 1080p, commonly 1080p indoors and 900p outdoors.
  • PC wins on draw distance, shadow quality, textures, anisotropic filtering, post-processing effects and vegetation density.
  • The PC version has problems with certain SSR reflections.
  • He rates the Series S version as poorly optimised: it fails to hold a stable 60fps outdoors.
  • On console the frame rate drops to 30fps during some cutscenes.
  • Loading times are fastest on PC, followed by PS5.
  • Ray tracing is exclusive to PC, and at the time of the analysis it had not shipped yet.

Frequently asked questions about Atomic Heart

Which platform does Atomic Heart look best on?

PC. It adds draw distance, shadow quality, textures, anisotropic filtering, post-processing and vegetation density over the consoles, and it is the only version with ray tracing. The downside is a handful of broken SSR reflections.

Is there a difference between PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Not in image quality: they use the same dynamic resolution range, 2160p indoors and 1620p~1800p outdoors, both targeting 60fps. Loading times are the only split, and they favour PS5.

Does it run well on Xbox Series S?

It is the weakest version. It sits at a dynamic 1080p, commonly 900p outdoors, and even so it cannot keep a stable 60fps in open areas.

What graphics card do I need on PC?

We measured 29 cards on the ATOMIC preset. An RTX 4090 gives 198-215 fps, an RTX 4080 171-192, an RX 7900 XTX 163-181 and an RTX 4070 Ti 138-162. An RX 6950 XT sits between 131 and 147.

Does it have ray tracing on console?

No. Ray tracing is exclusive to the PC version, and at the time of the analysis it had not even shipped there yet.

Which upscalers does the PC version support?

DLSS 3.7 and FSR 2.2, plus DLSS frame generation. Field of view is adjustable, and ultrawide only works through mods.
