The future of Cyberpunk 2077

It was one of the most anticipated releases of its year, but as everything in life, all that glitters is not gold. Cyberpunk 2077 had a somewhat rocky launch and has gone through a long journey to become the game it is today. In this regard, CD Red Projekt has managed to steer the ship in the right direction and has done a great job polishing Cyberpunk 2077 and releasing its DLC Phantom Liberty. Proof of this is that both the title and its DLC sales continue to grow.

And what can we expect...

CDPR has revealed that they are focusing on other projects, especially on the sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is already on the studio's to-do list, and it is inevitable that we will begin to see information about the game in one way or another. In this context, CD Projekt Red's narrative director, Philipp Weber, recently spoke in an interview about the importance of Cyberpunk 2077's Life Paths and hinted at a gem about the sequel:

"I think there are aspects, like the Life Paths, that promise greater variety in the types of characters you can play. It's something we would like to improve in the future. We believe we made a promise that perhaps we didn't fully deliver on."

"Although the three different Life Paths available in Cyberpunk 2077 add some variety to the game in its early stages, the distinction between Nomad, Corpo, or Street Kid quickly fades as the game progresses. The system only offers a few dialogue options that add some diversity, but with no significant impact on the game. We hope that the next game in the series will give more relevance to your character's origins and allow you to explore different paths as you progress through the story."

We still have a long way to go before we see anything resembling news about the sequel, but it's good to know that the company is at least considering that possibility. Furthermore, it seems they are focused on other projects that are also quite interesting, such as the upcoming The Witcher. However, it's encouraging to know that CDPR will not just stick to the same formula and, instead, is looking for ways to improve the next game.
