ASTRONEER is a new game of exploration and construction, which places us in the distant future, concretely in the XXV century, and where a desire for wealth has taken over humanity. We, as stellar explorers, must investigate distant worlds and explore them, then shape the world to our liking and extract the riches it contains.
Our primary mission will be to sell the wealth that we obtain from the resources extracted from the planets, stars, and moons, to achieve the maximum possible yield. Resources can be sold to the highest bidder. Otherwise, they can be used to manufacture tools, vehicles, and modules, and even create huge industrial bases to increase the productivity of the industry that we will install in the worlds to get the most benefit.
But before all this, and to become rich with natural resources, we must explore the world to make sure it is safe, and once explored we will modify the terrain to adapt to our needs, and we can even create large excavations to the center the planets to extract energy from the nucleus.
Also, thanks to our desire for riches, our character will be able to build a spacecraft to visit other nearby worlds and further extend our domains. The title has an online mode to play along with four friends and explode altogether the whole planet.
What does Astroneer offer and how start?
It is a space survival game, but with nuances that differentiate it from other games of this style. At the moment, to survive it will not be necessary either to drink nor to eat but to breathe, and that in Astroneer we will be an explorer dressed in a space suit visiting distant planets, reason why the reserve of oxygen will be a major factor.
At the beginning of the game, our character lands on a planet generated procedurally in a small but useful ship and with few mining tools. At our back, a small oxygen cylinder connected to our ship through a tube that will be responsible for giving us vital support. The mining tool that we have in our power allows us to modify the planetary surface at will.
At the beginning, everything can look very nice, since we are still connected to the ship using the oxygen respirator and with resources around us to explode, but the thing becomes complicated when we have to move away from the ship to continue to get the precious resources.
And how can we get away from the ship without suffocating?
Well, we'll have to build breathing tubes that connect us to the ship. For this task, we will need a particular resource, and we will connect them in a way that provides a good range of movement and allow us to continue exploring while we breathe with the help of our ship.
How can we control all these elements?
The Astroneer interface is simple and very well structured. On the one hand, we have the oxygen meter, which will be in charge of notifying us when our reserves are consumed, and next, the power of our mining tool and the resources we have gathered. Thanks to these few parameters to control, it is very easy to predict when you will run out of air or what you have collected. The truth is that it is very well structured and with the necessary elements not to have to look for the information.
Is it monotonous or boring?
Well, the truth is no and I explain myself. Oxygen is a very valuable and fascinating resource that gives the game a factor to be taken into account since at all times we must be connected to a structure to have vital support. Given this significant factor, and we will always have to keep it in mind, we must take care of the collection of resources to continue increasing our base.
For this task, we will have a super tool capable of molding the terrain and clearing it of debris and even creating subterranean routes that later we will investigate in search of materials, yes, without forgetting never to extend our air ducts. Energy also plays an important role, and we must add solar panels and generators to supply our mining tool, and even build buggies and other vehicles.
Another of Astroneer's strengths that make the game always different are the random events that happen depending on the planet. Storms occur at random and obscure the visibility and send rocks and debris flying so that we will prepare our astronaut before these inclemencies. What's more, if we are away from our base and suddenly we come across one of these storms, we can use our powerful mining tool to create a hole in the ground and hold on to it.
Should I buy it?
There are many survival games currently on the market, but none like this, so original and with so many elements to keep in mind. If you like new experiences and what you are looking something original, in the survival genre, no doubt you will love this game.
